I chose to carry out this instruction by editing it using a popular social media app , i like the idea of changing the perspective and i enjoyed experimenting with different faces on different bodies but decided to use the stags head to replace the worshipers . I chose this photo because it interested me and made me question hat what going on in the photo .
W.W.W: i think i followed the instruction well and and experimented with different concepts E.B.I: if i were to recreate this image again i would try and be more precise with my cutting and sticking technique and experiment with different body parts and faces on different people . |

Marchel Duchamp was a French American painter , sculpture and writer who's was famous for his work with Cubism , dada and conceptual art however he was most famous for defacing Leonardo Divinci's famous Mona Lisa in 1919. He intended to cause some commotion so when deciding what painting to devalue he knew he had to go big or go home . When choosing he knew that he needed to deface a painting that almost everybody knew and a painting that symbolised amazing artistic ability and natural female beauty , The Mona Lisa , but after Duchess stunt many people began to wonder why the Mona Lisa was so famous in the first place .
This is explained partially by the mystery surrounding Mona Lisa herself , who is she ? , what was her relation to devinci ?, as well as the praise given to Leonardo around the original painting and off course the iconic scandalous theft and the subsequent world tour in the 19th century . It is speculated that by 1919 Mona Lisa had become somewhat off a celebrity after she was re installed in the Lovre witch is one of the biggest museums in the world , in Duchamps eyes this was the perfect angle from a joke at arts expense . |
Duchamp obviously couldn't deface the the actual image so he decided to create a postcard sized replica of the painting . because of its already world renowned fame this post card was reproduced hundreds of thousands of times , making a great souvenir to tourists coming in and out of France . The moustache and goatee that she beared on the postcard postcard appear comical at first but if you look closer this could of been refrencing gender fluidity , Duchamp himself had a female alter eagle going by the the name of Rrose Selavy however this idea is heavily contrasted by the letters underneath the replica "L.H.O.O.Q" wich when pronounced in French sounds like a rude French insult , Elle a chaud au cul wich translates to she's got a hot ass in English . Duchamp may have been referring to Mona Lisa smile and famous beauty when he said this but I guess we will never no .

from looking at these images i think that the photographer wants to convey a feeling of celebration throughout a diverse community . I think that these images are not necessarily just about British culture and perception of afro hair but more about the world understanding and disregard for diversity . I think the community these images create is a celebration in itself as Perrier has created a personal bond with each sitter whilst showcasing an incredible concept and idea through a consistent project that consistently reminds us of the natural beauty that is Afro Hair .

When researching Gordons work i came acros a number of differant images that i really liked however i chose this image as one of my favourates . When i look at this image i see a 3D composition consisting of striped vase , wilted flowers , spray painted blue apples and a number of other small kitchen appliances , these objects are all either spray painted blue or resembling a form of blue hue . All these images are further higlighted by light blue and white shadows that have been painted onto a small blue backdrop . This interests me because of the way the composition was probably created . From looking at the image i think that it is possible that Gordon piated the backdrop before arranging the acctual subjects of the image . I also really like the fact the white rectangle inluded as part of the backdrop frames the entire image however it is oe of the smallest components that probably took the least time to do i verry much like the simplicity of this image and the simplisity of the compositioon is what makes it stand out from others . If i was to describe this image in three words i would say Impactfull ,cold and minimalist . If i was to ask the artist three questions about his work i would ask how he came up with this concept , what made him go for a blue washed piece of work , and if he could change anything about is piece what would he change ?

I Began my independant coursework by creating a Mindmap of all my ideas and prospectus artists and photographers i was intrested in researching as i liked there work and it inspired some of my ideas . I decided to research Maurizio Anzeri as i was really interested in the way he used thread and stitching to undermine and expose the image.
|
I found Anzeris work to be very inspiring especialy when creating my own work , I also decided to experiment with coloured string when creating my own work on a image from britidh vouge , however at first i had mindunderstood the process needed to efficently respond to anzeris work so i made the mistake of plotting lots of small individual holes rather than just two needed to create a line or a couple of dots to create a curved line , unfortunatly i did not finish my response but i still was happy with the end result .
|
I started off my fist response by using matt lipps technique of going through a magazine and cutting out any images that intrested me or i knew i wanted to work on , i used a vouge Espagnol and by the time i had gone through it the first time i had cut out 16 images . In combination with this i used a instgram account @convertingculture that posts vinatge or "found" images created by other artists , the account posts a lot of work from artists from different decades that really intrested me and inspired me with my own work . I used this account as a bank of found images that i could use and manipulate for my own project , i started by screenshoting , cropping and printing all the images i though i wanted to use i decided to work on one image at a time and experiment with using black and white versions of the same image to enahnce the origianl .

This was the final collage that I created for Make do and Mend , I was happy with the collage and I think it accurately conveys the theme of relationships that chose to convey , although I have chosen to show some more obvious relationships between people I also tried to think about the relationship between each image . for example in the centre of the collage you see a man lying on his friends however there Is a leg appearing from the hip of his jeans . for me this was one of the most successful moments of the collage as I felt it was seamless and showcased the depth of the varying relationships I was attempting to convey . If I were to improve one thing I would have liked to off made it less chaotic with clearer focus points so as not to overwhelm the viewer however overall I am happy with my final response to make do and mend .
